You can't imagine a life with out your breasts, you have one or two weeks to decide about what to do regarding breast reconstruction at the same time as coming to terms with cancer treatment and its affects. Your doctor gives you some information, but you are not sure how to make the required decisions or even if you heard anything they said.
Suddenly you need to find answers to a thousand questions, and talk to other women who have been there before you. You might be asking yourself....

Outcomes of this project
- women will be more informed of all options for breast reconstruction and what is available outside of their immediate location and in a timely way, this knowledge leads to empowerment and a sense of control in a distressing situation
- women have ways to connect with others through RYC services such as online communities, face to face and by phone, this provides reassurance and support throughout their procedures and beyond
- women have access to a trustworthy reliable resource to use in their own time
Rural Education ProgramAccording to reports the areas with the lowest rates of breast reconstruction are due to a lack of information and resources in rural and remote areas.
Reclaim Your Curves aims to reach women in these locations to inform them about their post mastectomy options and new technologies that may assist them to reclaim their curves. To achieve this we need to travel to rural locations, meet with the local health professionals and offer information seminars and take home information to consumers.
|
Outcomes of this project
- women in rural and regional locations will have more resources at their finger tips to make decisions about breast reconstruction, currently only 2% of rural women who face mastectomy follow through to reclaim their curves through breast reconstruction. New technologies and information may assist with access for these women.
- this project specifically targets women who are not online and provides opportunities to connect with other women who have undergone procedures
- health professionals will learn about the resources and support offered by Reclaim Your Curves

Peer Support
An army of volunteers across Australia are supporting women face to face and online every - single - day.
There is nothing quite like getting information and advice from someone who has walked the walk. Your surgeon should be able to show you several images of women who have had procedures, but this is just part of the picture. Having those images in the context of an actual person and her lifestyle can play an enormous part in helping you to feel more assured about your choices.
